Hello,

We are living in a humid region of Mumbai, India. It's rainy season now. I had tank which contained,

a molly 6 months old 2 times delivered and going good.

a guppy again 6 months old

2 guppies a different variety(don't know the details) which were bought 2 months back if am not wrong

Now, this is what is very strange and shocking. Couple of weeks back I got sucker to clean the tank. With that I also got a Angel. After a day or two I found the angel wasn't eating and next day it was dead. The next two I found my old guppy dead. I felt it must have been the sucker so we removed it to the other thank. Later I got a spotted white molly, a white molly, a yellow male molly and a yellow female.

In the last couple of days the everd 2 days each fish started to die.

spotted molly, male yellow molly, white female, yellow female, my old molly died yesterday night. It's very shocking. And very saddening as well.

There are a couple of things which I felt as water, or the worms that we give. But then our neighbour also does the same, then why doesn't his fish die. I don't change the water often in rains and when I do I put the necessary liquids.

Our neighbour says it might be that they are shocked :/ I wonder what shock. I have noticed a pattern. They don't eat. They go to a corner and stay there forever or on the rim of the tank, and in couple of hours to come they die. Then it happens to the next fish. Also, the tank is kept near the window, I have a fighter in the other tank kept besides the main tank and 2 small guppies which only remain.

Could someone please help me. I will be getting new fish very soon. Please help me on this.

  1. the nitrogen gases associated with high ammonia and nitrite levels settle to the bottom zones of the tank

....this is why fish go to the top gasping for air

....in order to prevent the toxic accumulations, water changes must be done with regularity....rain or shine

...perhaps I am right or wrong

.....how often is the neighbor making his water changes?

....those symptoms seem like ammonia and nitrite poisoning

  2. YEW SHOULD PROBLY STOP GETTING FISHES IF THERE JUST GOING TO DIE THE NEXT DAY:[

ITS PROBLY THE WATER OR IT COULD BE THE FISHES FIGHTING IDK

  3. well since u say that u added new fish after the others died. that was a bad idea. U shouldnt add new fish until u determine the reason the others died. And also u should only add one new fish at a time. Give everyone time to adjust to him ( about a week) before adding more. hope this helps. =D also, maybe its something in the tank have u should get a test kit and test the water. And if u are buying all these fish from the same place they maybe the cause.

  4. I t sounds like the tank in not "cycled" yet. Fish give off ammonia as prat of their byproduct. Ammonia is dangerous to fish even in small amounts. There are bacteria that will eat this ammonia and give off nitrite as a byproduct. Nitrite is also dangerous to fish . There is another type of bacteria that will break down this nitrite to nitrate to nitrate which in not too dangerous for your fish.top get these bacteria growing you could ask someone with a fully cycled and healthy tank for some gravel or filter medium from his/her tank. You need to keep track of the ammonia for a while until it goes to zero. Then the nitrite will start to climb so you need to keep track of it.When the nitrite goes to zero, the tank will be considered cycled for up to the amount of fish that you have in the tank (as long as you are not overcrowded).

  5. go to your fish store and have them check your water levels.  Have you checked your water levels lately?

  6. perhaps it's the water that's causing that? chlorine is deadly to fishes. have you mixed anti-chlorine with the water before transferring the fish??

Does chlorine affect my fish when I use tapwater for water changes?

Chlorinated tapwater is safe for human consumption, but highly toxic for fish.

Chlorine is usually added to Municipal water at a concentration of 0.5 to 3.0 ppm (parts per million). Although this seems to be such a small amount, fish are very sensitive to chlorine and concentrations of as little as 0.05ppm are deadly. Larger fish are far more sensitive than smaller fish and are affected by smaller concentrations.

Chlorine not only affects the gills of the fish but it also kills the nitrifying bacteria in the biofilter. The resultant spikes of ammonia and nitrite together with the initial damage done to the fish results in the death of the fish 3-5 days after introducing chlorine into the system.

How can I remove the chlorine in tapwater?

Chlorine dissipates into air relatively easy, as it is a gas dissolved in water. By simply spraying the tapwater into the pond about half of the chlorine will have dissipated into the air. Therefore never stick the end of the hose into the water when adding chlorinated water to a pond or aquarium. The problem with this is that you are still left with chlorine in your water.

Another way is to leave the chlorinated water in a container (preferably aerated) in the sunlight for about 24 hours and the water would be safe for aquarium use. The problem with this is that with the water exposed to the elements unwanted bacteria can enter into the water or unwanted chemicals such as fungicides or pesticides can contaminate it.

Anti-Chlorine binds with the chlorine in the water and makes the water safe for immediate use. Anti-Chlorine can be added before or during introduction of chlorinated water to your aquarium or pond.

  7. Main thing is the water which must be changed every two to three days, Timely food sumptuous must be given, If one fish gets  a problem shift it soon to another place to a mini fish tank.

  8. i fish died in 1 nite :( it wasnt kewl

  9. I would honestly say that its probably because your fish hate you and don't want you as their guardian.
