Question:

Very simple Jet Ski question, that is baffling everyone.?

OK, so I have what seems to be a very simple jet ski question, however I have wasted about 25 hours of my life, calling all over the place, searching the net, and talking to many people, nobody knows.

I own a '91 kawasaki x2 jet ski, and I need some new turf for it (the turf that goes in the foot tray). Its just some simple black foam rubber type pad thats about 1/4 inch thick. So it gives good traction for the feet, while being soft for the knees as well.

I know they sell aftermarket hydroturf brand kits, but those are way too expensive for me, I can't justify paying almost $100 after tax or shipping, for a couple pieces of foam rubber. I'm simply looking for a place I can buy a roll or sheet of some inexpensive genaric black jet ski turf, that I can cut to size myself (I need 2 pieces about 8 inch by 4 feet). Same kind as you see on any stand up jet ski really.

Do you know where I can find it, or even a more specific name of what its called? Thanks.

  1. What you really want is called EVA, that's the same stuff that HydroTurf uses as well as every surf traction brand. What I would do is call AstroDeck they are the originators of this stuff.  info@astrodeck.com

Hopefully they can sell you a roll large enough, you would then use 3M spray 90 apply it to the ski.

  2. A friend of mine had the same problem & needed something quick so we could Jet Ski the next day. He ended up going to a computer store & picking up 8 neoprene mouse pads for under 15.00. He laid them out, trimmed them to fit and glued them down with Gorilla Glue as a temporary fix.

That was over a year ago and it worked so well he has no plans to replace them until they no longer function. We ride about 4 times a week and the pads still look like new but for some minor abrasions which are hardly noticable.

Make sure you clean the tray real well with a solvent & rough it up with some 80 grit sandpaper to give the glue a good surface to adhere to. If you use Gorilla Glue, use it sparingly as it foams & expands while setting. Also moisten the pads. Using plastic bags full of sand as weights will help make a permanent bond.
