Very strange noise in backyard, any ideas?

I live in southwest Georgia, and today my brother and I heard a very strange moan like noise in my backyard. It was around 1:00 am and my brother can running into my room telling me he heard a weird noise while he was sleeping on the swinging chair on the deck(I have no idea why he sometimes sleeps there.) I decided to go on the deck because I wanted to hear this strange noise. For a couple of minutes all I could hear were dogs barking from the other neighborhood that my woods lead to. Then I heard the noise twice, its kinda hard to explain what it sounds like, but it was a deep long moan. Any ideas what animal made this noise?

One very common and eerie nighttime moaner is the barn owl.  They can raise goosebumps even when you know what the noise is.

well i heard it before and my dad too.. while my dad is jogging in the afternoon he heard a ghost-liked sound that is deep like the sound of cow(Moo) , and he wondered, he was looking around and finally saw a bird but sorry we all couldn't identify it, i heard it 1 time in my backyard and it is really sounds like either man or ghost, sounds horrible, take a look here:

Possibly a cat in heat. If you keep your mouth shut and make an "rrrrr" sound in your throat, that's pretty close, but they do make these loud and bizarre sounds.

Being Georgia, and with the reaction of the dogs, possibly, maybe a black bear, but I would put too far from the Okefenokee (one of their three habitats in GA). They will range pretty far for food, though.

My backyard goes up to a wooded area of a park.  The racoons and possums go around at night and make noises.  One night it sounded like something was crying while it was dying, I think the possum killed a rabbit, or maybe a cat.

I used to leave food for a stray cat on the back deck.  I was on Y/A late one night ( like I am now ) and I hear something get knocked over on the deck.....I looked and there was a huge possum at least 3 feet long.  I shut the door and don't leave food at night any more.  I feed the cat during the day.

same thing happened to me once and i went out to my back yard and after looking around (i was worried about my cat since the sound reminded me of an animal in pain) i found hedgehogs mating.  they make the weirdest sound!

I think he dropped his cell phone and its on vibrate. Just playing! Its not a snake since they dont make that noise thats for sure. maybe a bug humming its legs.
