Vesna Dolonts/ Anna Tatishvili defeat Cirstea/ Safarova in Doubles quarterfinal – Swedish Open 2011
As expected, the Russian-Georgian pair of Vesna Dolonts and Anna Tatishvili had no difficulty in disposing off the Romanian-Czech duo of Sorana Cirstea and Lucie Safarova in the quarterfinal of the Collector Swedish Open’s doubles
category.
Match being played at Bastad, Swedaen, the Russian-Georgian duo of Dolonts and Tatishvili managed to outclass their opponents in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, to move into the semi-final of the WTA (Women Tennis Association) tour level
event.
Dolonts and Tatishvili rolled through the first set, breaking Cirstea and Safarova three times with well-placed shots that jerked them side to side and up and back. The Romanian-Czech duo was breathing heavily throughout the match
as their opponents gave them a considerable run for their money.
The winning pair scored majority of points and with displaying a great deal of composure, they closed out the match, taking one hour, two minutes and twelve seconds of play.
Weighed down by expectations, the Romanian-Czech duo lost the match to Russian-Georgian pair with a huge difference of 13 points in total and had to face an early exit from the tournament.
To put it simply, the opening stage of the contest made all the difference. Cirstea and Safarova faltered in the beginning and, despite making some desperate efforts at the business end of the match, could never make a comeback.
Once the Russian-Georgian duo raced to a 6-2 lead in the first set, they were witty enough not to dispose of the valued advantage in the later parts of the game.
However, it was not that Romanian-Czech duo gave away the match easily. At one point of time, it looked all over when they lost their serves in the eighth game of the first set, but the next set saw Safarova playing some inspired
tennis to corner her opponents. However, Dolonts and Tatishvili had the last laugh as they came up with few majestic shot making to close out the match at 6-2, 6-3.
If there was any hope of Romanian-Czech duo making amends of their initial mistake, it was quickly washed away in the second set as Cirstea surrendered her service game and as the Russian-Georgian duo attacked with some hostility,
Safarova and her partner looked visibly tired.
Up next for the winning pair is the third-seeded Spanish duo of Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja in the semi-final of the 2011 Collector Swedish Open.
