I took my cat to the vet today and for 3 vaccinations, a checkup, and a cat toothbrush. it totaled to $ 97.00

i think that's crazy. for the check up she swapped his ears, looked into his ears and eyes, weighed him, and pressed on his belly. for $36.

the vaccines were about $15 - $20 a piece.

what do you guys pay for your checkups and vaccines?

  1. Here's a price list for mobile services on following link:

  2. Wow, it has been years since I've gotten out of the vet's office for under $100!  But then again, I have senior and geriatric kitties.  I am in southwest Virginia near Tennessee.

An office visit/examination at my vet alone costs $45.50.  It is usually thorough-ears, eyes, teeth are checked, then the vet listens to the chest sounds and checks the abdomen for anything suspicious. Since mine are so old and strictly indoor, I only get the rabies vaccination and that costs $20.75 for the 1 year.

No matter what the costs, the unconditional love and joy, and countless hours of entertainment and amusement that our beloved furbabies provide is well worth the cost of keeping them healthy.

Purrs to you and your kitty.

  3. Sounds about right to me.

    Vet care isn't cheap.

  4. That's actually very reasonable...

I just spent $1333.10 on my cat (age 17) who had an absessed tooth.  This was for 4 vet visits to try and diagnose the problem (including x rays, full blood panel, iv fluids- she hasn't eaten since last Wednesday, pain medication, antibiotics, dental surgery and meds for after care treatment..

Granted, I live in San Francisco, but I have no regrets.  She's finally starting to feel better and now I know (besides the bad teeth) that she's in really good health.  She's my family member and I wouldn't give it a second thought-

But the biggest lesson I learned?  Brush your cat's teeth.  It is a good investment in your cat's health and your wallet-

  5. You can buy vaccines and do them yourself from a Feed Store for like $5-$10 that covers the typical vaccines they get at the vet. You just need to get the rabies one at the vet.

Also you can get dewormer, antifungals, and actually quite a few things at a Feed Store to treat your pet if you know what you are doing.

  6. That IS crazy!  In the other direction.  I go to a holistic vet (because they have nutrition training as a rule) and it ain't cheap.  I can't give you exact figures for everything but I just happen to have my invoice from last night:

    Client services fee:  $13.50

    Physical Exam/Consult:  $61.50

I don't know how much they charge for vax because it hasn't been done.  I did have a titer done but I don't recall how much that was.  Their charge for a fecal was about the same as the regular vet although I don't recall that either.

However, I really get my money's worth when it comes to the physical exam/consult.  The cat is checked over thoroughly - teeth, abdomen, temp, eyes, ears - all the usual stuff.  And they spend 45 minutes discussing the cat and everything about it.  I actually take notes!

So I'm paying more but I'm getting more.

In your case, we'll see from other answers how it stacks up.  But just keep this in mind - sometimes you really do get what you pay for.  If your vet is mediocre in most ways then by all means shop around.  But if you tend to get good service for them, you might be shortchanging one and all if you try to save money going elsewhere.

EDIT:  Swapped his ears LOL  Is that like a tire rotation?  I love funny typos!

  7. that sounds about normal.

I had a checkup for my cat, and i got the rabies vaccination, de-wormer, and 1 tube of flee meds. and it was like $50. $97 really isnt that bad, thats about the norm for what you got!

  8. doesn't sound unreasonable.
