  1. paintedrain2 is right on ALL points.

It's so irritating when people say that they love their pets.. BUT they'd never take them to the vet. Why does a small animal have less value than a dog? They can be just as loving in their own ways, and if you want to take on the responsibility of a pet, you should be willing to take it to the vet if it needs care. I recently had to take my rat to the vet, whom I adopted for free, and it cost me $100. It was worth every penny to see my boy get well.

  2. to Anyone who said about not taking there gerbils to the vets I am SO mad you cant swear on this website cause I would be, you are undeserving pet owners, THAT IS PART OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITY WHJEN YOU BUY ONE, IF YOUR NOT GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT RIGHT THEN DONT BUY IT!

  3. geez...if a small pet isn't worth taking to the vet if something is wrong then don't bother having one as a pet.  just because they are small doesn't make them any less important than a cat or dog!  ugh...that makes me mad.

i took my hamster to the vet and it cost me about fourty bucks.  sadly, he didn't survive but i did all i could for him.

i would say maybe 25 to 100 bucks depending on what is done.  you should call your vet and ask.

  4. lol. I don't mean to laugh, but a gerbil is hardly worth taking to a vet. It will cost you more than the gerbil itself cost.

  5. well it really depends on the problem.

ive never had a gerbil but i have had hamsters and one of my hamsters got really sick and we took her to the vet 3 times and we spent about 500 bucks

even if ur not totally sure if your small animal is sick, u should always take it to the vet anyway because its better to b safe then sorry. their not like dogs or cats: they dont usually show dirastic signs of being ill so ur lucky u noticed something was wrong.

    take it to the vet.

    hope it gets better soon!

And also i absolutely hate it when people say that you shouldn't take them to the vet! if you were a sick little helpless gerbil, you would want your human to take you to the doctor not just say, o your cheap so i could always go to the store and buy another gerbil!!! i mean come on people!

  6. $150

  7. Depends what the problem is.  If it's a cut then not much, but if it's a serious problem then probably a lot more.

  8. Depends on what needs to be done during that visit. If it's just a basic health check, then it'll be the office visit fee & nothing else. My vet charges $37 for the office visit. I paid $50 for a surgery (rat), and $10 for medications.

Another vet I went to, I paid $50 office fee, and $15 for medications (rat had an ear infection, my personal vet was busy), so a total of $75 for something basic.

EDIT: It always bugs me when people say it's ''hardly worth it'' when it comes to small animals & the vet. If you aren't willing to take the animal to the vet if they're sick/injured, don't get the pet. Initial cost of pet/lifespan should not factor in.

  9. Not to sound mean.  I love my gerbils dearly but I wouldn't run them to the vet.  They don't cost a lot and they don't live long.  I bet it would cost the same as it would for a dog or cat.  Vets are all out to make money.
