Veteran Guard Mike Bibby renounces a massive deal to join Miami Heat
It is fast becoming a trend for high profile players to leave a huge lump of cash and travel to the South Beach, hoping to win a championship. LeBron James did it, so did Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. And the latest player to have
manifested this trend is the thirteen year point-guard Mike Bibby.
Bibby landed in Miami in one of the most mind-boggling deals of the trading season.
Bibby, who was relocated by the Atlanta Hawks to the lowly Washington Wizards this past week, relinquished his entire 6.4 million dollars remuneration for the next year. Instead, in an attempt to salvage his career, he negotiated
a buy-out with the Wizards.
"He sacrificed some money in order to win a championship. Once you're past 10, 11 years in the league, you want to be in a situation where you can win. He's got some attractive options open to him." Bibby's agent David Falk commented.
Bibby’s shift was virtually projected when he was traded to Wizards by Hawks as he wanted to sign with a title-contending team after spending over a decade in NBA. There were number of things that heaved him to Miami Heat. Guard
Eddie House, his brother-in-law and most importantly the team is among the favorites to win the title this season.
"It's always tough to give up money. At this time, this part of my career, I want to be happy. And I thought this would be the best place for me as far as winning. I've won and lost in my career, and I'm at a stage where I want
to be happy." Bibby stated.
Mike Bibby made his first appearance in Heat’s uniform on Thursdays night opposing their rivals Orlando Magic. The 32-year-old guard received a standing ovation from the crowd as he set foot on the court with 1:11 left in the first
quarter. The ovation was recognition of the sacrifice Bibby made, to earn his way into the franchise
Coach Erik Spoelstra said he is not sure when Mike will pay as a starter however, it won’t take much time. Spoelstra took a little time to introduce veteran guard late in the first period as he entered the game wearing No. 0. The
first and the only bucket for Bibby came few minutes before the first half, a three-pointer assisted by lebron James following a massive support from the fans.
Dwayne Wade said that a new player needs time to adjust. He also expressed his satisfaction at Bibby’s arrival as the Heat will now have more court influence as they look to finish the season on a high.
The Miami Heat was in search for a suitable contender to support their defense. With the veteran swingman in their ranks now, they will benefit from the experience of a man who has started 80 playoff games in his career.
