Veteran Mariano Rivera might need vocal cord surgery, hints at retiring -MLB Update
In what might dishearten fans to hear all over the world, veteran New York Yankee pitcher, Mariano Rivera, might need surgery on his vocal cords, which he terms as have been nagging him for some time along with hinting the next, 2012 Major League Baseball
season might be his last according to latest reports on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Rivera himself said that his situation is getting worse day-by-day and will eventually require surgery, which will obviously bring about uncertain results.
"It's been a month. Every time I talk it gets worse and worse," Rivera told the New York Post. “I thought it was a little simple thing and I went to the doctor and she said they might have to do something. I think they have to scrape them.”
Rivera finished off his 17th straight season with the New York Yankees ever since he made his debut in the season of 1995.
He boasts a total record of 75 wins, 57 losses and playing in a total of 1042 games.
It was also noticed at the charity event Mariano Rivera was hosting on Tuesday, that he could barely speak with reports and avoided most of the chances due to the worsening condition.
Taking about the surgery, nothing can be said what results it will have for the soon to turn 42-year-old player, not only because of the age but also due to the various reprobation involved with the procedure.
“When you’re talking about surgery, there’s no ‘simple,’ added Rivera when asked about the surgery.
Finishing the last season with by setting yet another record for career saves with 603, it is easily noticeable that Rivera is still better than ever and if the veteran New York Yankees player is forced to resign after the end of the next season, which is
something no one around the league would like to see, it will be because of the surgery and nothing else.
Further developments on Rivera’s condition are expected in the upcoming days as doctors are still looking into whether surgery is the final answer for his situation or not.
