Veteran WR Nate Washington offers to lead Tennessee Titans’ young receivers force – NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ veteran wide receiver, Nate Washington, has lately weighed himself to suiting more to the leadership role in the growing young crop of receivers in the team.
Nate, the eight-year WR, sees himself blessed to be into the role of responsibility and it is not just a matter of the talk, his performance over the past few years backs his stance.
He managed a 74-catch record last year, and the level was reached by Titans for the first time in the last seven years. A year earlier, he had remained equally impressive.
This year the team’s focus has remained on the emerging receivers, Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright, and the senior sees himself gradually settling into the leading role. He said he tends to focus more on the performance of the entire group
and less on his individual efforts.
He said:
“It’s kind of funny to be the old man in the room. I’m very blessed to be here this long, looking forward to another season and having these guys looking to me for leadership. I accept that responsibility. I’m very proud to say that I
am the guy they look to. I like having that leadership role.”
Although no one from the team’s officials has any thing to say of the player’s self-done promotion, his offensive coordinator and some colleagues have endorsed him for the top role.
Chris Palmer, Titans’ offence coach, said:
“It was almost like people had a certain idea of what Nate could do and what Nate couldn’t do, and then he showed a different side of himself last season I think he took a step forward. I expect him to keep putting up numbers for us.”
Although Nate realises he is fast approaching his age, his stay for another couple of seasons at least should benefit the team in the longer run.
His presence can be plotted as the phase of transition for the young stars. He can help them groom their energies and talent with his experience.
Most importantly, his game will be crucial to Titans’ chances of doing better this season. They had their job well done last year, but just fell shy of the playoffs. They have the opportunity and potential to make up for it this year.
