http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 today expressed hopes that the nations’ cricket team will win a medal at the Asian Games, now being held in Guangzhou, China.
Miandad told the Chinese press that he hopes Pakistan can act as an emissary of the sport to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/China-c40996.
He speculated that with Pakistan’s long tradition of enthusiasm for the sport, they will perform well in the Asian arena, especially with some of the country’s main competitors out of the picture. “In the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, there is a big scope for the Pakistani
team to occupy position on the victory stand," he said.
Javed told Guangzhou’s APP that that he is paying close attention to the Asian games. Although he is hoping for good results, and believes the odds to be in Pakistan’s favour with India not competing, he maintained that the outcome remains tentative, and
asserted that a stronger or weaker performance from any another team could always change the result.
Miandad, who acts as an advisor to the China Cricket Association, says that he believes the “future of cricket to be very bright” in China, and that he expects the game to take off in the coming years.
He mentioned that although Chinese teams have not yet competed on a large scale internationally, the men’s team is off to a good start, having scored 50-plus runs in the allocated overs in the 16th Asian games.
Calling it regrettable that the Chinese woman’s team lost the bronze medal after a one run defeat; Miandad said that the Chinese men’s team has an advantage over other small players, such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 and the Maldives.
This he says, is because of a “depth of enthusiasm” on the part of the Chinese population, coupled with the Chinese team’s strong resolve to play all its allocated overs.
Miandad praised Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari for having taken up the cause of promoting cricket in China.
He told the Chinese press that, “With the passage of time and support from the present government, one day the Chinese cricketers would get further excel in this game to win medal like other sports.”
