Veteran relief pitcher Brian Fuentes retires – MLB Update
Veteran relief pitcher Brian Fuentes did not play after mid-August in this recent past Major League Baseball season as he was placed on restricted list by his team, the St. Louis Cardinals.
Some say it was various personal reasons which prompted him not to play again in the season despite Cardinals’ called him back into the roster for the post season.
Now many sources are reporting that Brian Fuentes is retiring from the game after playing almost eleven years in the biggest baseball league in the world.
“Ultimately, I was just having trouble with the time away from my family, I've been playing baseball for all of their lives, but I'd never been so far away as when I was in St. Louis. I think at one point I went like two months without seeing them. Coming
home being able to put them to bed at night made me realize what I was missing." Fuentes told the media.
He added, "I've had a great career, I never dreamed I'd have had the opportunities or some of the successes that I've had. I'm very grateful for my peers and the friendships that I've made."
Selected four times in All-Star Game and honored with America League Saves Champion in 2009, Fuentes certainly had a terrific Major League career.
For over the past eleven years, he always gave his best. Even in his last playing year, he played with considerable consistency.
He finished the 2012 Major League campaign achieving 7.20 ERA along with five saves, 24 strikeouts and 1.70 WHIP.
Not only this recent past season, but his career ERA of 3.62 along with 204 saves, 639 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP also makes a player, who always played his best game wherever he played.
Starting from his career in 2001 from the Seattle Mariners platform, Fuentes later went onto play for the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals.
Though he played in various Major League franchises in his illustrious career, but most of the time, Fuentes played in the Rockies and won many games for them.
