Veteran trainer, Kiaran McLaughlin nabbed his 1000th North American victory
Veteran trainer Kiaran McLaughlin sent, Que Posse to run in the eighth race at Aqueduct on 16 March, hoping that the 5-year-old gray or roan gelding will notch the trainer his 1000th North American victory, and that’s exactly what the son of Posse,
out of mare Lavender Baby did, and provided his trainer what he longed for.
“I think it means the most to me that Art Magnuson, and Neal (brother), my two main assistants, have been there for all 1,000 wins and that we’ve been together for all the victories,” said McLaughlin by telephone from Florida. “I’d like to thank Sheikh Mohammed
and all my owners for their support over the years.”

It was an optional claiming race, run over a distance of six furlongs at Aqueduct’s inner track, as the NYK Thoroughbred Stable owned, Que Posse, under jockey Eddies Castro posted a victory of  2 ¼ lengths after being sent as the 10 to 1 choice.
McLaughlin, who is now 51 reached his first milestone in training in 2008, when he was spectacular in the Saratoga meet that year, where he edged past another, equally good trainer Todd Pletcher, and won himself a New York training title.
In New York, Kiaran McLaughlin has most wins over the venue where he notched his 1000th win, Aqueduct, with yesterday’s win his tally over the race course has shot up to 305, and after Aqueduct, McLaughlin rules the Belmont Park, where he has
registered a whopping 270 wins, and after that comes Saratoga with 101 wins.
McLaughlin is responsible of training Invasor, the brilliant horse, who won the Horse of the Year title back in 2006, and in the same year, the veteran trainer won the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes with, Jazil.
The trainer with Invasor in the same year won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, which ultimately sealed his fate as the Horse of the Year, but in the following year, McLaughlin did something which many Breeders’ Cup Classic winning trainer’s dream of doing
as he won the Group 1 Dubai World Cup with Invasor.
He has nabbed 300 races at Dubai, where he began his training for Sheikh Mohammed, and after leaving Dubai, he used to visit the place annually until 2003.
