I take holstein cows to the fair through 4-H, (they are between 300-600 lbs. and male) and my one cow always breathes hard and fast, and it sounds like there is a lot of snot in his nose. Could this be a "cow cold?" Or is it something else? Because the sale is this Saturday, and I don't want somebody to buy/eat a cow that is sick. Thanks

  1. STOP EATING ANIMALS!  if u do plz atleast treat them properly when u are raising them on the farm.

  2. He sounds like she may have a respiratory infection. You need to handle that today if you want her ready for the sale next week. One way to check if she has a cold is to make her moo. If he says Boo, she has a head cold. ROFLMAO!

  3. What the heck is it with the two trolls here, who are protesting eating meat?!  I sent this young lady to this section to recieve answers from people who know about cattle....not answers from vegan type idiots.

There are plenty of forums for you to protest the eating of animals on properly.  Telling a CHILD who is in 4H to go drown themselves, or go shoot themselves is themselves in SERRIOUS need of professional mental help.  Everyone in 4H is 18 years old or younger...in other words CHILDREN.  You have zero right to ever speak to a child that way.

I am an adult.  I told this 4H child to seek help to her question in this section of yahoo Q&A.  Now for telling a child to do such horrendous things, why don't you go follow your very own advice you gave her!

  4. okay firstly im not a vet, but i do live on a farm with holstein cows, whether you choose to listen to what i say or not is up to you.

from experience it sounds like pneumonia, although this is mainly common in younger calves, we have had it in the odd cow.

it could also be this other thing to do with their lungs (sorry but i forget what it is), its caused by being outdoors anyway (btw im NOT suggesting you keep your cows indoors 24/7, this is just plain cruel, and could cause pneumonia)

anyway, whatever it is, it needs a vets diagnosis and treatment, holstein cows may be big and strong looking, but their quite bad at fighting illness without treatment.

  5. Yeah Garnet!  Great answer!

as to answer the question, .... sounds like she/he has a cold. Ask your vet for some meds asap!

    Good luck!
