I think I'd like to do a career in veterinary medicine, but was wondering, is it better to do your undergraduate in biomedical sciences or biology?

  1. I'm probably from a different country than you, over here veterinary medicine is a 6-year college program. But I would  suggest biomedical sciences rather than biology. There's quite a gap between clinical and basic sciences, and veterinary medicine definately veers toward the clinical. Taking basic courses in physiology, histology and pathology are going to help you more in your future career than research-oriented subjects like molecular biology or cell signaling. Heck, I flunked biochemistry twice and I'm doing fine (I think)!

  2. Better under graduate in biology before having it. so you'll learn more about animals.

  3. I have found out that college councilors are mostly a big joke.  My advice is to call a couple of veterinary colleges and see what they prefer when looking over applications.
