Question:

Vets with Pets?

If your a Vet or Vet Tech, do you have any pets?

And when did you decide to get them?

Ive heard Vets who adopted some from the shelter or strays taken to the vet or something.

I think its pretty cool, but I heard college is the hardest time to have responsibilities like studies and pets.

Im thinking about getting a horse or a cat afterwards though.

  1. My vet has the coolest dogs ever.. He travels down to West Virginia and other rural areas to volunteer for low cost spay/neuter clinics. All of his dogs are rescues.. He has five of them and they range from a little rat terrier mix to a big ole coonhound/rottie mix.. He has an apartment in the back of the vet clinic and takes a few of his dogs to work with him.

He's been a vet for at least 20 years though, so he didn't have any of his current pets while in school..

Definitely best to wait till after college to get a pet. Most of the time your stuck staying in the dorms and most dormitories do not allow pets.

  2. Not a vet, but I work in a pet shop and a lot of our staff end up taking home animals from the adoption centre. Even I did! I took home a long male gerbil, Hunky Magoo.

  3. The vet clinic where I work at - they all have pets ;)

One vet has 3 lovely cats and 2 dogs which she adopted.

Another vet adopted a cat who was found homeless and brought into the clinic.

Another vet brought her foxy from a breeder, but adopted her cats. =)

I think college would definitely be the hardest time to have pets.

Next year while I'm staying in the dorm, I'm not allowed pets - but then 2nd year onwards when I go flatting I am gonna bring my cat and rabbit up with me ;-)

Not gonna get any new pets for a while though, especially since I wanna travel.
