Sebastain Vettal can go to Ferrari-at the end of career: Red Bull team boss Horner
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner is confident that world champion Sebastian Vettel will not be seeking a move to Ferrari anytime soon.
Horner’s statement comes after Vettel said that it would be a dream to race for Ferrari. The German jokingly added that he would pay for Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to take a year’s holiday in order to take their place in the ‘red team’.
“I would like a podium at Monza with Ferrari. And one day I hope to have a Ferrari in my garage. Despite being at Red Bull there are lots of Italians supporting me,” Vettel said.
“My dream is to race one day for Maranello and for the moment I'm happy to be at Red Bull, without them I would never have arrived in F1,” he added.
Vettel's contract with Red Bull is set to expire at the end of the coming season. Red Bull has an option to extend the contract to 2012. The 23-year old statements have triggered speculations that he may be seeking a move to Ferrari for next year.
However, the Red Bull team principal appears calm and has said that a driver should be allowed to express himself. Horner said that he and the team would not stand in the way if Vettel wanted to drive for ‘the red team’ later on in his career, but said that he hoped that the German would spend the prime of his career with them.
“He's grown up within the Red Bull family, and hopefully (will do so) for many years to come. Just before he retires he can go to Ferrari, and that could be another 10 years away,” he said playfully.
Sebastian Vettel’s ten Grand Prix wins have come with the same Red Bull team, with the cars built by technical director Adrian Newey. Vettel respects the fact and admits that without Red Bull he would have been in some lower ranks.
Last year, Vettel brought the drivers and constructors title to Red Bull, after Fernando Alonso was denied a victory due to Ferrari’s failed pit stop strategy.
The German put the fastest time on the opening day of 2011 winter testing at Valencia in the new RB7, and sent out a message that he is well in form and on course to nab another F1 title.
