Vettori laments Kings XI’s devastating death bowling – Cricket News Update
Royal Challengers’ Bangalore skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384 has admitted that his team’s poor performance during the last few overs of their innings, owing to the intense death bowling of the Kings XI Punjab, led to their ultimate 4-wicket defeat on May 2 at the
M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
“We lost momentum in the last five overs of our innings. The way they (Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833) bowled demoralised us and we could not score 50 or 60 runs in the slog overs,” he observed.
“RCB could have done better by setting 180-run target for the visitors to chase,” Vettori added. “It was difficult batting first up as the ball was doing a bit initially. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143 bowled exceptionally well in his four overs, giving away just eight runs.”
The Royal Challengers went into the match with a strong batting line-up, including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887. The team maintained a solid stance in the initial stages, with Gayle (71) and Kohli (45) establishing a 119-run
stand.
However, that partnership came to an end in the 16th over, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 (9) were not allowed
to stage a comeback, with both dismissed by Mahmood in the last over.
In addition to taking crucial wickets, the Kings XI’s bowling attack was also exceptionally effective at restricting the run flow. Stand-in skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 conceded just 9 runs in the 2 overs he bowled, and Praveen Kumar’s 4 overs were similarly tight,
with the medium-pacer giving away just 8 runs.
The visitors cut the hosts off at 158 by the end of 20 overs – a target which the Kings XI managed to surpass (scoring 163 courtesy a final six off the last delivery of the match by Chawla), despite a moment of panic after three quick run-outs near the end
of their innings.
In addition to pointing out the devastating effect the opposing bowlers had had, the Challengers’ skipper also commented on how his team was not in a position to lose any more matches if they were to have a hope of making it to the upcoming playoffs. Vettori’s
squad is currently at number 6 on the tournament points table, having won only 4 of the 10 matches they’ve played.
