Vettori to miss remainder of Hobart Test due to hamstring injury - Cricket News Update
Seasoned New Zealand all-rounder, Daniel Vettori, has been ruled out of the ongoing Hobart Test against Australia, after he sustained a hamstring injury during the practice session ahead of the second and the last Test of the two-match
series, underway at Bellerive Oval.
The former New Zealand skipper had arrived at Hobart with a stiff muscle and the problem aggravated during the pre-match mandatory practice session, forcing him to make the sidelines.
"He started to warm up and realised that it wasn't good enough and decided to pull the pin," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 told the reporters after play.
The New Zealand physio Paul Close confirmed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384’s hamstring injury and told the media reporters that it might take him three to four weeks to completely recover from the strain.
"Unfortunately Dan sustained a recurrence of his left hamstring injury that's been problematic for him over the last few years," said the New Zealand physio while talking to the media reporters on Friday.
"We expect him to be rehabbing the injury and back to full fitness within three to four weeks. We are confident he will be back to play some HRV Cup cricket at some stage in the new year," he added further.
New Zealand’s next international assignment is against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, which will start at the end of January next year, hence the veteran all-rounder has enough time to concentrate on his rehab. However, he has been ruled out of Australia’s
Big Bash League, to be played in late December and early January. In the Big Bash League, Vettori was due to play for Brisbane Heat. Also he will miss a part of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s HRV Cup.
Vettori was one of the most reliable players in the New Zealand crew during the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Gabba, where he not only performed with the bat but also claimed two wickets.
Vettori’s ill-timed hamstring injury gave uncapped
fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Boult-c2708 an opportunity to make his Test debut. But the absence of Vettori’s experience in the second Test could be a huge blow for the Kiwis already struggling against a relatively inexperienced Australia side.
