Vettori urges his team to ‘get their heads around’ the batting-order rotation
New Zealand’s captain, Daniel Vettori, urged his side to “get their heads around” the player rotation structure in the ongoing One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan.
“Guys have really got to get their heads around changes in batting orders and what the selectors want to see out of certain players”, Vettori stated.
The ‘player rotation’ will feature in the next five ODIs against Pakistan as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 works to revamp their batting performance by giving each member of their 15-man World Cup squad a chance to shine with the bat.
“It (rotation) is what’s going to happen throughout this (six-match) series and I suppose we don’t want to make it override what we’re here for, and that’s to win”, the former Test captain said.
Nathan McCullum, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 that is scheduled on 26 January at Queenstown Events Centre.
He didn’t get a chance to pad up for the brief run-chase in their first win at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 and his off-spin was not required as his side’s pace bowlers did all the damage.
Vettori admitted that being rotated in the batting order is “incredibly tough” but stressed on the fact that the batsmen need to see the big picture as they are a part of the final 15.
“You can’t let it worry you too much”, Vettori suggested to his side in a pre-match conference on Tuesday.
Right-handed batsman, Jamie How, who raised a few eyebrows after he was recalled in the World Cup squad as a wicketkeeper, will be getting an opportunity to come in at Number 4 in the batting order.
He debuted in 2005 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but failed to help his side.
Yet, he is in top form at the domestic level and Vettori supported, John Wright, the Kiwis coach, to move him up the order. He stated that “How just needs to make sure he takes his chance when he’s out there”.
The opening pair will remain the same with Jesse Ryder and Martin Guptill, with Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 coming at Number 3.
He told the press that the players have been aware of all the changes in the series and that they are for the “good of the team”.
