Vettori wants “clear minds” as Doull blames academy for the Black Caps’ cricket woes
New Zealand’s Captain, Daniel Vettori has asked his team to play with “clear minds if they want to end the losing streak” ahead of the fourth One Day International (ODI) against India which is scheduled to take place on the 7th
of December at Bangalore.
New Zealand has been losing their status in the ODI cricket since facing a whitewash 4-0 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. They have lost nine matches in a row as it threatens their bid to
win the World Cup 2011.
India has won the ODI series against the Black Caps 3-0 but they are seeking a clean sweep in the limited overs series.
However, Vettori appealed to his side that “each individual has to stand up and perform well. We need a couple of top order batsmen coming good in the next two matches.”
He conceded that the reasons for slumping to a 3-0 loss were “simple and unfortunate.”
“We failed to post enough runs on the board by trying different things. We did not put pressure on the Indian batsmen. In this part of the world you need to go harder with the ball and make it straight,” Vettori admitted.
The Kiwis have been hit by injuries that can be contributing to the under-performance of the New Zealanders during the tour of India. New Zealand’s star wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum has been resting due to a back strain in the
first two ODIs whereas in the third ODI he failed to perform, losing his wicket without taking a single run. Jesse Ryder’s injury has also hampered the Black Cap’s ability to post huge scores.
The Captain has called on the Bangalore Royal Challengers’ Ross Taylor to be the key man for a win in the fourth ODI as his Indian Premier League (IPL) home ground holds special meaning for the player. Taylor managed to score 85
runs in the first three matches in India; however, Vettori was confident that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 would get “comfortable” in Bangalore as it was a “real turning point for him in the series.”
Meanwhile former New Zealand’s cricketer, Simon Doull expressed disappointment with the Black Caps preparation for the World Cup scheduled in just three months’ time.
He blamed the “poor academy system” for the Black Caps recent failures. He told a radio show that the now dissolved http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket Academy (NZC) is responsible for the inadequate performance of the team.
“The academy has ruined a generation of New Zealand cricketers. I believe that they have followed systems and taken second rate people from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746,” he commented.
He slammed the “biomechanical coaches” of the academy who ruined the natural instincts of the players. He claimed that the players look more like “clones” and fail to exercise their own playing style.
He appealed to the Board that there is a need for rebuilding squads and systems to build a World Cup team for 2015.
“They’re looking for specialist coaches, they’re looking for the right guy which straight away is an indication that they’re going the right way, but it’s going to take time,” the former fast bowler said.
