Vexillum looking good to upset Merchants Return in 32Red.com Handicap at Wolverhampton
Merchants Return was no more than an unlucky loser last time, as he missed the crown only by a nose. The 3-year-old will attract a lot of punters at Wolverhampton on Friday evening, but we predict Vexillum’s success in the 32Red.com Handicap.
Mick Channon’s charge has been performing quite consistently since the outset of this season. After running plenty of good races in defeat, the 3-year-old finally got off the mark in August.
The audience at Yarmouth saw him clinching an easy 5-length win over Akula. He showed another fine act in the same month. On August 25th, he seized the runner-up position at Redcar.
His latest trip was also quite impressive. In a very tough clash at Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, the Insignia Racing (Roundel)-owned missed the gold only by one and a quarter lengths. In the Racing Post Form With totepool Mobile Handicap, he faced an unfortunate loss at the hands of Red Tyke.
The son of Mujadil travelled nicely during most part of the race, but failed to make a strong finish under Sam Hitchcott. On the other hand, the winner played wisely inside the final furlong, and eventually seized the first place with ease.
Vexillum is returning to this venue after a long time, but his supporters need not to worry. Bred by Rathasker Stud, the brown gelding handles this surface very well, and has strong claims today.
Merchants Return is another to watch out for. He went very close over shorter trip here last time, and would be a major player today. But one needs to take only a calculated risk on him, because the Lydia Pearce-trained has not yet shown a winning effort. He surely needs to put in an extra effort to open his account.
White Deer is a consistent sort, who likes it here. But to gain victory, Geoffrey Harker’s charge will have to be at best. Zambezi Tiger is an Irish raider, and it will be no surprise to see him in the frame.
Today’s class 6 contest is all about the clash between Merchants Return and Vexillum. The latter is more experienced, and should be preferred. Good luck to all.
