VfB 91 SUHL sweeps past Iller Bankasi ANKARA into CEV Volleyball Challenger Cup final four
The German city of Suhl played host to a quarter final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women which saw the home team of VfB 91 SUHL compete with Turkish squad of Iller Bankasi ANKARA.
It did not take long for the home team to hand out a defeat to their Turkish opponents as SUHL slid into the semi finals of the tournament by making a clean sweep over their opponents. Despite the fact that the Turkish lost the match by losing three sets
back to back, they did not go down without putting up a good fight in the first and the last set.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores as 29-27, 25-18 and 25-21.
The player that was able to earn the honour of being the top scorer of the match was from VfB 91 SUHL. The home team’s Vendula Merkova was able to keep the pressure on her opponents scoring the most points in from the teams.
The first set of the match saw the guests take the lead early on while the home side struggled to get into the game. The Turkish were going strong with a lead of 20-15 but the Germans managed to close in the gap and secure themselves the first set of the
match at 29-27.
The start of the second set saw both the teams come out strong with neither letting the other take the lead initially. However, by the second technical time out, the home team was leading at 16-10, an advantage they were able to extend until 25-18.
The third set also saw the home team take the lead at 17-13 with the guests trailing behind. Before long, the Germans were able to bag the third set as well at 25-21.
After the sweeping win that the Germans have been able to achieve, they will be heading into the semi finals of the tournament that are scheduled to take place in the capital city of Azerbaijan, Baku. The final four matches will be held on March 24-25.
