VfB Friedrichshafen of Germany qualifies for the final of national cup – Volleyball news
The internationally popular German men’s volleyball club VfB Friedrichshafen posted 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-20) victory over conventional rival Moerser SC in a crucial match on Tuesday, December 27 and qualified for the final showdown of German National Volleyball
Cup.
It is 12th time in history club that VfB Friedrichshafen qualified for the last act of the national cup. The team already has ten title trophies in its custody and has plans to add another to their count.
The Head Coach of VfB Friedrichshafen, Stelian Moculescu, was overjoyed with the final result of the match. Speaking of the tough contest against Moerser SC, he stated, “We needed some time, until the last section of the first set, before we could find our
rhythm. We significantly improved the quality of our play in the next two sets and played much more concentrated.”
The opening set of the match was closely contested. Friedrichshafen had a slow start, which was full of unforced errors. Taking full advantage of the situation, Moerser hit the mark and added quick points. However, opposite Oliver Venno supported Friedrichshafen
with some powerful serves and put the team back on track. Moerser led the scores at 22-18 before Friedrichshafen fought its way back in the game. They put up a great effort and chased the score. Friedrichshafen claimed first-set win with narrow gap of two
points, 25-23.
The team around Head Coach Stelian Moculescu dominated the scene in the second set. They used the winning edge and put pressure on the opposite side. Moerser was dragged under pressure and lost momentum. The duo of Oliver Venno and outside hitter Thomas
Jarmoc proved to be driving force for Friedrichshafen and did not allow Moerser to come up. They attacked from all angles and wrecked the defence line of Moerser. Eventually, second set also came handy to Friedrichshafen and they extended their lead to 2-0.
Friedrichshafen continued with hard hitting in third set and heavily influenced the opponent. Moerser played to its full potential and threw everything in attack but failed to outdo Friedrichshafen. Third set ended with identical score of 25-20 and Friedrichshafen
emerged as the winning team.
Next up, VfB Friedrichshafen will be joined by Generali UNTERHACHING in the final match, which is slated for March 4, 2012. Generali will be vying for fourth consecutive win at that national cup. However, the defending champions will have to cope with the
pumped-up VfB Friedrichshafen, in order to keep their winning streak going.
The last act of the tournament is scheduled to take place at the Gerry-Weber-Stadion in Halle/Westfalen, which has the capacity to hold10’000 spectators. It will surely be a cracking fight between two top teams of Germany.
