Stuttgart midfielder Christian Gentner has expressed his disappointment on the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last week and claimed that the performance of his team could have been better. He insisted that home games are crucial
and a defeat at home can be crucial in the final standings at the end of the season.
Die Roten lost their third round fixture in the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen as Stefan Kiessling scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute. The defeat took the club to 10th place on the Bundesliga
standings table with four points from three games.
Gentner stated that his side did not see enough possession of the ball throughout the match. He admitted that running before the ball in such heat made it tiring for most of the players which is why there were not many chances
created in the second period of the game.
“Our main problem was that we let ourselves fall behind when we conceded the goal scored by Stefan Kiessling. It meant that in that extraordinary heat we were constantly chasing the ball. That was very demanding and meant we used
up a lot of our energy early on. Unfortunately it was for this reason that we weren't able to get ourselves back into the match,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, the midfielder remained confident that his side will be able to make a good comeback in the next clash against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 and is looking forward to securing all three points. He added that Stuttgart have a great squad
with a lot of depth and they have that quality to challenge for the honours in this current campaign.
“We'll analyse the match and draw the right conclusions from what we see. In the next match in Berlin we'll be giving it everything we've got to take all three points,” he concluded.
Christian Gentner made a total of 41 appearances for Stuttgart last season and scored an impressive eight goals in the process. The former Wolfsburg player also has three international caps to his name.
