Bayer Leverkusen have expressed desire to sign the VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, following an injury to their first choice goalkeeper, Rene Adler. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 on Sunday, August 7.
However, it was Giefer’s blunder which resulted in the opposition’s first goal and the goalie later collided badly with Eric-Maxim-Choupo-Moting. He was later taken to a hospital where the x-ray reports revealed a fracture. The player has now been pronounced
unfit to take part in the club’s next game on Sunday.
Leverkusen manager, Robin Dutt, was concerned with the current situation of his number one goalkeeper. He confirmed that Adler won’t be able to take to the field until the second half of the current season. The manager also voiced his opinion on his standby
keeper Yelldell, saying that the 29-year-old hasn’t lived up to his high standards which has forced the club to search for a new keeper.
He also criticised the abilities of the recently injured Giefer, especially after the howler he made on Sunday. Dutt believes that Leno could very well fill in the boots of Adler until the German international gets fit. He urged the officials to lure the
teenager to BayArena prior to the game against Werder Bremen.
In an interview to a local channel, Bayer president Wolfgang Holzhauser enthused, "We are looking at Leno, whether we bring him in depends also on Stuttgart. [The new goalkeeper] should be stronger than the other two but not a direct competitor for Rene
Adler. We have not spoken at all about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297."
He clearly stated that the club hasn’t had talks with the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann, and he is certainly not an option. Wolfgang claimed that Leno could soon join the Werkself and also requested the Stuttgart officials to let the 19-year-old
leave at least for this season.
Leno made his way into Stuttgart’s senior side in 2011 but is yet to make his league appearance. Playing for the second string side, the goalie has made 54 league appearances. He also has featured for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 at the U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels.
