Troubled relations between VfL Wolfsburg and Diego reached its anticlimax after the club finally announced to part ways with the player this summer. The Playmaker had a controversial debut season with the former Bundesliga champions, resulting in a rift
between the two parties. The Brazilian, though, was reported to have apologized to the officials and was ready to start a new journey with the German outfit.
Diego joined the club prior to the start of the 2010/11 season for 15 million Euros but failed to justify his hefty transfer amount. His behaviour at the club was highly criticized by former manager, Steve McClaren, who was later replaced by former Schalke
manager, Felix Magath, in March this year. The 26-year-old received a heavy fine during McClaren’s regime for not following the instructions of his manager. Though he later to apologized for his wrongdoings, the relations have apparently fallen beyond repair.
The playmaker did not have the best of seasons and always found himself on the cover pages but for all the wrong reasons. His relations even with the teammates weren’t getting any better, causing a bit of concern in the Wolfsburg ranks. Diego received a
fine on Tuesday for storming out of the team’s hotel after learning about his omission from Magath’s starting XI in Die Wolfe’s last game of the 2010/11 season against Hoffenheim. The former Juventus man was slapped with a 500,000 Euro penalty.
Wolfsburg officials stated that it would be difficult to continue with the Brazilian during the next season in spite of the apologies made by the midfielder.
"After talking with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058, it was clear that further co-operation will be difficult and so it is better to separate." Magath revealed.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 international wanted to continue playing with the former champions but it seems highly unlikely in the wake of Magath’s latest remarks. Diego’s contract runs until 2014 but the club has already wished to release him for anything above 10 million
Euros.
For his part, the player had said, "I always felt comfortable at Wolfsburg, but I made a mistake. Now the club and myself will find the best solution."
However, the journey for Diego seems to have come to an end. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santos-c32532 man managed 30 league appearances during his first season with the club, netting six goals in return.
