VfL Wolfsburg defender Marcel Schafer extends his stay at the Volkswagen Arena – Bundesliga news
VfL Wolfsburg left back and skipper, Marcel Schafer, has extended his contract with the club until 2014. The player felt obliged after being offered a new deal and vowed to live up to the expectations of the officials at the Volkswagen Arena. The deal took
place during the late hours of Saturday and the move was welcomed by the fellow players and the fans.
Schafer mentioned that the club did extremely well in order to retain their spot amongst the big boys last season after getting through the relegation playoffs. The 27-year-old claimed that Wolfsburg would emerge as a potent force during the upcoming season
as compared to the last campaign.
He reckoned that the club won’t be affected deeply by the departures of a number of players during the ongoing summer transfer window. The German international showered praise on his manager, Felix Magath, and expressed his desire of repeating the feats
of 2008/09 season, where the club managed to win the Bundesliga title under the same manager.
In an interview to a local news channel, the left back added, "I am delighted to remain with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881. I owe a lot to the club and coach Felix Magath - and I've always said that my family and I feel very comfortable here. Also, I want to be successful
with VfL in the coming years. I am confident that we can achieve it here."
Schafer showed gratitude towards Die Wolfe officials for entrusting him the defensive duties and vowed to gel the players together for a successful campaign. Magath was also thankful to the player for accepting the new deal and was delighted to see the commitment
of the defender towards his club.
The manager concluded by saying, "The fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-c23507 is committed to VfL is very gratifying. “He will shape the image of our team in the coming years. It is also important that after the many departures that one of the club's most successful players is
staying with us."
Wolfsburg will lock heads with FC Koln in the opening game of their 2011/12 Bundesliga campaign.
