Wolfsburg full-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 have tied one of their most consistent players in a bid to challenge for the honours in the next campaign.
Die Wolfe had a dismal season last term as they marginally avoided relegation in the last week of the league campaign and ended up in 15th place with 38 points from 34 games. The club managed to win only nine times and lost a staggering 14 matches in the process.
Schafer expressed his delight on extending the contract and claimed that he wants to remain at the club for many more years. The defender insisted that he still owes a lot to the fans after a disappointing campaign last term and is confident of making a strong comeback.
“I am delighted to remain with VfL Wolfsburg. I owe a lot to the club and coach Felix Magath - and I've always said that my family and I feel very comfortable here. Also, I want to be successful with VfL in the coming years. I am confident that we can achieve it here,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the official club website,
Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath was also elated and hailed the player’s commitment to the club. He admitted that the club has tried his best to strengthen the squad for the upcoming campaign and was happy that Schafer committed himself after a number of players left the club this summer.
“The fact that Marcel is committed to VfL is very gratifying. He will shape the image of our team in the coming years. It is also important that after the many departures that one of the club's most successful players is staying with us,” the manager concluded.
Marcel Schafer has so far made 122 league appearances for the Wolves and scored six times in the process. The player also has seven international caps to his name and is yet to score his first goal.
