http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 vs. Bayern Munich – Bundesliga Preview
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich will travel away to Volkswagen Arena to take on VfL Wolfsburg in a much awaited encounter of the weekend. The two sides will lock heads on Saturday, August 13.
Wolfsburg are fresh from a 3-0 away win over FC Koln last Saturday and will be looking to stamp their authority at home against the title contenders.
Bayern, on the other hand, didn’t have the best of starts as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to last year’s relegation contenders, Borussia Monchengladbach. The Bavarians will be looking to make amends for that loss when they take on Wolfsburg later
this evening.
VfL Wolfsburg
Felix Magath’s side will be confident going into the game against Bayern Munich. The home side registered all three points last weekend when they travelled away to take on FC Koln. The manager would ideally want his team to repeat the same feat later tonight.
It is believed that Die Wolfe could take advantage of Bayern’s current situation as the visitors are expected to press hard. Wolfsburg will also have the home advantage to their favour and can push Die Roten further down the barrel. The last time Wolfsburg
defeated Munich in the Bundesliga was in 2009, when they registered a 5-1 win at home.
Bayern Munich
Bayern will go into the game with only one thing on their minds: a win. Jupp Heynckes’ side received a major shock of the season in their opening game last Sunday as the Reds were defeated by the Foals.
The manager would want his side to come out with a perfect response and leave the Volkswagen Arena with all the three points. Bayern failed to score in Sunday’s encounter and will be hoping to break the deadlock against Wolfsburg.
These two teams last played at this venue in January 2011 and managed a 1-1 draw.
Team News
VfL Wolfsburg
Magath’s side doesn’t have any major injury worries and are expected to go in with the same side that defeated Koln last Saturday. The home side will adapt a 4-4-2 formation with Mario Mandzukic and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Russ-c23742
and Simon Kjaer will be in the central defence while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Benaglio-c11085 will guard Die Wolfe’s net.
Bayern Munich
The Reds will adapt a 4-5-1 formation. Last year’s top goalscorer Mario Gomez will be the lone striker supported by Thomas Muller, who will play behind Gomez. Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber will be in the centre of defence, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424 will perform
his goalkeeping duties for the visitors.
Players to watch
Wolfsburg will once again be counting on the abilities of their last week’s hero, Patrick Helmes, who scored a brace against Koln in his team’s 3-0 win. The German striker will be expected to repeat the same feat and guide his side to a win over the title
favourites.
The visitors, meanwhile, would ideally want their entire side to perform and make amends for the last week’s shocking loss. Striker Mario Gomez would be under pressure to perform especially after grabbing the award for Bundesliga’s top goalscorer last season,
yet failing to score in the opening week loss.
Prediction
Both sides will be desperate to register a win and a decent fight is expected at Volkswagen Arena. Bayern will certainly press hard in order to register their first points of the season but the current form suggests that Wolfsburg will be hard to beat at
home. The end result could be a 1-1 draw.
