Vfb FRIEDRICHSHAFEN wins last match of Pool B of 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
The last match of the Pool B of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men recently saw the Vfb FRIEDRICHSHAFEN of Germany contest with the Zenit KAZAN of Russia.
The competition was held in the German city of Friedrichshafen. The match between the two sides went on for five long and gruelling sets at the end of which the German squad was able to better their opponents at the following final set scores, 18-25, 25-18,
25-20, 21-25 and 15-7.
Despite the fact that the home team was able to win the thrilling battle, it is still the Russian squad that has been able to top Pool B at the end of the day. As a result, it will not be the Germans but the Russian side that will be making their way into
the Playoffs 12 of the tournament.
The coach of the Russian squad, Vladimir Alekno, expressed himself in the words at the press conference after the match had reached its close, “We needed only one point. That we got. It is not the first time that I was here and it was always difficult. Vfb
FRIEDRICHSHAFEN is strong at home and you have to get used to the special light in this gym.”
On the other hand, the coach of the German side, Stelian Moculescu, shared his views in the following manner, “My players did it well. My compliments. They harmonized and played well. All in all we can be satisfied. Before the match we did not think that
we could have the chance to win it.”
The entire match took a total of 113 minutes to reach its close. The Russians came out strong in the first set and were able to take the lead early on. The advantage that the KAZAN got for itself made them lead the way all through and kept the Germans trailing
behind.
The second set followed the same pattern but this time the home squad was in the lead and tied the match with a win. The momentum led the Germans to win the third set as well but the Russians made the match reach a fifth set by bagging the fourth one.
The final set of the game was dominated by the home squad who sealed the deal on it.
