Vic Darchinyan wins technical decision over Yonnhy Perez on Saturday – Boxing News
Armenian national, Vic Darchinyan, has finally defeated Colombian star, Yonnhy Perez, by scoring another technical decision win to his career, in their scheduled 12-round Bantamweight Title fight. The
match was held on Saturday, April 22, at Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, California.
Darchinyan won the International Boxing Organization’s Bantamweight Title in the process. The two fighters went face-to-face to take the third place in Showtime's Bantamweight tournament.
As a result of an accidental head-butt, Perez was seriously injured in the fifth round. His eye was bleeding due to a severe cut, when the bout was called-off by the referee because he was not in a position to take the bout till the end.
After the decision of the match went to the hands of the judges, all the adjudicators gave their scorecards in favour of Darchinyan, by awarding him three equal scores of 50-44 in every round.
Raging Bull has now become the rising star in the boxing world with 36 wins, which include 27 KOs and three losses. El Colombiano, on the other hand, has currently fallen for the record of 20 wins, one loss, one draw and 14 KOs.
Darchinyan was extremely aggressive throughout the fight. The 35-year-old displayed his boxing skills in an elegant manner in the first round. In the second round, Perez went down on his knees after receiving a series of punches from Darchinyan.
Flyweight and Junior Bantamweight Title holder, Darchinyan was in complete control to take the bout all the way in his favour. However, in the fifth round, there was a notable head collision between the two, when blood gushed from a cut above Perez’s right
eye.
According to Dr. Paul Wallace, “One of his blood vessels had been cut and it was pumping directly into his eye. He gave no indication he wanted to stop.”
Darchinyan confirmed that the accident was incidental and said, “It was a head butt, but if it wasn't a head butt, I would've knocked him out.”
Referees were forced to call-off the match after analysing Perez’s medical condition. If the fight had continued, Darchinyan was surely looking to oust his opponent in style.
