Vice Captains for the European Solheim Cup Team Announced: Annika Sorenstam and Carin Koch

The vice captains for the European team have been announced and the choice could not have been wiser. Annika Sorenstam and Carin Koch will be a great addition to the European team.
The captain, Liselotte Neumann chose these two players because of their experience and golfing abilities. Solheim Cup is a battle of experience and wits.
These two players have a long history of playing in such high-stress tournaments and will prove to be an excellent support for the less experienced players.
Annika Sorenstam is from Sweden and is close friends with the captain. She is a well known pro golfer who has a reputation of playing brilliantly. She is known for her top-level golf skills. She has an amazing 93 professional wins in her career so far.
She is no stranger to Solheim Cup. She has played in eight editions of the tournament, from 1994 to 2007. This vast experience will come to play in the upcoming edition, where she is expected to play a leading role in the European victory.
She is well known for her Solheim Cup singles’ performance. She often paired up with leading team members for foursome and team events. In her last Solheim Cup appearance, she played five matches and won two of them.
Talking about her responsibility, Sorenstam said, “I am very honored and excited to join Lotta and the European Solheim Cup team once again as a Vice Captain. Lotta has been a friend of mine for nearly 20 years and actually inspired me to follow my dreams
when she broke through and won the US Women’s Open in 1988”.
Carin Koch is another Swedish golf star with an excellent record. Solheim Cup is a very familiar tournament to her and many experts say that she will be an important pillar of the European win.
In her 2005 Solheim Cup appearance, she won 2 out of four matches she was scheduled for. This is a fair record and an excellent point in her favour. Some observers have pointed out the she does not look ready for a tournament of this high a calibre.
Her performance in the 2011Women's British Open led many people saying that she has lost some of her golf magic. However, Koch staged a comeback in 2012.
Her performance so far this year has been good. She tied for the third place in Turkish Airlines Ladies Open with a score of 290. Earlier, she played in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open presented by EventScotland.
For her it was an important tournament and she was expected to perform well. She tied for the 24th place and her confidence in her golf abilities was restored.
Koch is well aware of the huge responsibility and is determined to take it head-on. Talking about it, she said, “I am very excited and honored to be chosen by Lotta as her Vice Captain. I am looking forward to working with a great team in her and Annika”.
“Lotta was my first role model in golf and she will be a wonderful leader for the team. Annika and I played together on the Swedish team growing up, on the LET and LPGA”.
The 2013 European team is in capable hands. With the great Swede player Liselotte Neumann in command, the team will be a tightly managed ship. This is an excellent way to ensure that the Solheim Cup remains on the European soil after the 2013 tournament.
