With doubts about Diaz’s ability to measure up to the exhausting schedules Atletico will be part off due to their participation in Europe, Simeone is pondering over whether to add another central defender to his ranks.
Sporting Gijon defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Botía-c4316 has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital after suffering the ignominy of relegation to the Segunda Division at the culmination of 2011/12 La Liga season.
However, the Murcia born stopper’s contract is a tricky one with Barcelona retaining the option of buying him back after selling him two summers ago.
It has been reported that La Blaugrana are considering the possibility of buying him back on the cheap from relegating Sporting and selling him on a profit to Atletico to make the most of their youth academy graduate.
Botia’s addition to Atletico’s roster presents a positive change as they will add a player of great potential to their ranks.
The 23-year-old has an impressive resume on his hands after representing La Roja at all youth levels, and become a European champion in the summer of 2011, in addition to boasting off a gold medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games.
Botia has been called up by Vicente Del Bosque on a couple of years but has yet to feature for the reigning European and World champions.
Despite all him promise, he had to leave Barcelona in search of more first team minutes. The summer of 2010 saw him turning his loan spell in the previous year into a permanent deal, costing Sporting a meagre 600,000 Euros for a four year deal.
However, the Camp Nou based outfit inserted a buy-back clause in his contract that allows them to bring him back to Catalonia in three years.
Botia will cost the Copa del Rey winners a meagre 2.5 million Euros in the current transfer window, while the transfer sum can increase to 5 million Euros next year.
