Vicente Escobedo scheduled to take on Juan Ruiz in a 10-round bout - Boxing News
Vicente Escobedo, the current WBO NABO super featherweight champion, will finally see some action again when he takes on the more experienced fellow countryman Juan Ruiz, the former NABF featherweight champion, in a 10-round bout which will take place on
May 12, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Woodland Community Senior Center situated in Woodland, California, United States and the event will be organised and promoted by the trio of Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, Don Chargin of Don Chargin
Productions and Jorge Marron of Jorge Marron Production.
The rest of the pay-per-view is still under consideration and with the passage of time more bouts will also be added. As per the information available at the moment, the Saturday night show will also witness Alfonso Blanco co-headline the showdown against
an opponent still to be decided.
Escobedo, 30, has been in a total 28 bouts and boasts 25 wins with 15 of them via knockout. The world number four super featherweight is on a three-bout win streak since his last loss to Robert Guerrero.
The orthodox Vicente has recently evolved into a lethal pugilist who collected an impressive first round knockout win over Lonnie Smith and grabbed the vacant WBO NABO super featherweight title.
It must be kept in mind that Escobedo will enter the ring against Juan with the stipulation that if he wins the bout, he will directly move forward to take on Adrien Broner, the current WBO super featherweight champion.
Vicente while sharing his thoughts about the upcoming engagement commented, “To be honest, I haven’t really thought about a fight with Broner. I’m taking things fight by fight. I’m just ready for a war in my next fight.”
His Saturday night opponent, Juan, has been in a total 32 bouts and emerged victorious in 23. The 33-year-old has nailed just seven of his opponents by knockout and is famous for his resilience.
The odds are clearly in favour of Vicente in fact the bout might become a sparring session for Escobedo since Juan is going throw the worst moment of his career. Ruiz is on a continuous four-bout lose streak and unfortunately has won just three of his last
10 bouts.
With this scenario there is most probably no force that can halt Escobedo’s surge towards Broner for the title shot. Vicente has a clear upper hand in almost all the requisite significant brawling aspects and therefore will not feel much difficulty in nailing
Juan Ruiz.
