Vicente Escobedo starts sparring session for upcoming bout – Boxing news
According to a recent announcement made by Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions, Vicente Escobedo, the current WBO NABO super featherweight champion, will return to the ring again on May 12, 2012 in a bout against an opponent still to be decided.
The tiding was recently put forth by Golden Boy Promotions, promoter Vicente Escobedo. According to the details, Escobedo, who is currently undergoing a recuperating session after his last intimidating win over Lonnie Smith, will enter his career’s 29th
bout on Saturday May 12, 2012.
Vicente, 30, has been in a total 28 bouts and emerged victorious in 25. He has nailed 15 of his opponents by knockout and boasts win over many big names. His impressive pugilism, startling talent, the urge and desire to become a champion and aggressive style
has caught media’s due attention that is unanimously denoting him as the possible future number one contender for Adrien Broner’s WBO super featherweight gold.
Escobedo, is on a three-bout win streak and successfully nailed Walter Estrada, Rocky Juarez, and last but not the least Lonnie Smith to grasp the vacant WBO NABO super featherweight gold.
His win over Lonnie is considered as an impressive and somewhat an intimidating one. The bout which was spread over 10 rounds ended in just the first round when Vicente rattled Smith’s world with a huge right hand jab and flattened him on the ring floor.
The win was the fastest in Escobedo’s career and came within two minutes and 20 seconds of the first round. Furthermore, he has collected two of his total three losses against men who are feared by the division that is Michael Katsidis and Robert Guerrero.
Michael-Vicente bout had Michael’s interim WBO lightweight gold on the line and in the bout with Robert, Escobedo had the chance to grab the vacant WBO Inter-Continental lightweight gold.
During a very short interview, Vicente, who is currently training under the supervision of Joel Diaz said, “I’m excited to be back after that knockout last month. To be honest, I haven’t really thought about a fight with Broner. I’m taking things fight by
fight. I’m just ready for a war in my next fight.”
Vicente is a top notch pugilist and successfully resides at the third seat in world rankings. If Escobedo wins his May 12 engagement, his in-ring meeting with Broner will definitely be a sealed fact.
