Vicente Romero and Messias Felix make the Round 3 cut at Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro
Spain’s Vicente Romero and Brazil’s Messias Felix powered into the third round (Round of 64) at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro after clinching victory in their the fifth and sixth heat of Round 2 (Round
of 96) respectively that went down at Playa de Pantin in Galicia, Spain, on Wednesday, September 12.
Guadeloupe’s Dimitri Ouvre successfully extended his life in the event as well after finishing behind Romero in second place during the fifth heat. Portugal’s Eduardo Fernandes and his fellow countryperson Pedro Correia finished in third and fourth place
respectively, getting removed from the contention for the event title as a result.
The sixth heat saw Felix claim the win, while Basque’s Country’s Borja Agote finished in second place to successfully move into the next round. France’s Roland Lefeuvre and Australia’s Saxon Lumsden finished in third and fourth place respectively, thus getting
eliminated from the competition.
The opening day of the competition continued to offer two-to-three foot waves to the surfing talent, who were determined to put on an impressive performance to keep themselves alive in contention for the event title.
Romero got the better of Ouvre, Fernandes and Correia in the fifth heat. The 20-year-old Spanish surfer got off to an excellent start, earning an 8.83 off his first business-wave and went on to add an additional 5.83-point ride, thus finishing with a heat-total
of 14.66 points.
“I had a good heat, with a lot of waves,” Romero said. “Dimitri was surfing another peak so it was just three of us out there, and it was easier to get waves. In the first minutes I found my 8.83 so after that I was a lot more relaxed all the heat. I tried
to do a couple airs, I just had fun, the conditions are good and I think it’s only going to get better!”
Ouvre made the Round 3 cut as well after finishing second with a heat-total of 12.33 points, which included a 5.33 and 7.00 off his best-two waves.
Fernandes finished in third place with a heat-total of 9.50 points, which included a 5.17-point ride, thus getting eliminated from the competition.
The sixth heat saw Felix steal the show with his exquisite performance. The Brazilian surfer scored a 6.90 off his first business-wave early in the heat and later backed it up with an 8.50-point ride, thus finishing with a heat-total of 15.40 points.
Agote scored a 3.03 and 5.33 off his best-two waves for a heat-total of 8.36 points, which proved adequate to put him in runner-up place and thus take him through into the next round.
Lefeuvre finished in third place with a heat-total of 7.03 points, while Lumsden had to settle for fourth place after registering a heat-total of 5.87 points.
