Del Bosque maintained that he admires Messi more than Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid boss also suggested that the Ballon d’Or is used as a marketing tool by FIFA.
While talking to reporters, the 61-year-old was quoted as saying:
"Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? I prefer Messi, because he's more of a street player.”
“I do not like the Ballon d'Or. It's a marketing tool. Our boys are good players and nice people. If they gave [the award for best coach] to me, I would accept it, though, because I don't want to upset Fifa."
Del Bosque was nominated by FIFA to win the coveted trophy in 2010, however, Jose Mourinho was the eventual winner of the accolade.
