Vicki Copeland trounces Susannah Leydon in Women’s Singles event of Division 1 - Wisden Cup 2012
The spirited shuttler Vicki Copeland played impeccable badminton in Women’s Singles tie of Division 1 - Wisden Cup and toppled

This hard fought encounter was part of a match between Waikato and North Harbour which was played at local badminton arena of Hamilton in New Zealand.
Both contenders showed commendable fighting skills while piling up final result of 16-21, 21-19 and 12-21.
Vicki Copeland prevailed in opening and ending segments of the battle while Susannah could rise only in the second set.
The opening game set overall tempo of the match as both female shuttlers put laudable effort to gain an early advantage.
In first half, they snapped each other’s heels and remained close on points table. Neither of them could establish a comfortable lead until mid-game break.
At first, Vicki stepped forward by dazzling her challenger in couple of successive rallies but then the opposing shuttler counter-balanced the situation by gathering some consecutive points.
The Waikato campaigner strived hard to maintain this rhythm but she failed to hit the mark in crucial moments and surrendered after reading 16-21 score on the board.
However, Susannah did not remain at lower end permanently as she rose on her toes and turned her rival’s plan of straight-set win into dust.
This time she played with right attitude and fortitude to avoid a woeful defeat. She matched her opponent’s skills all the way to game point situation and won this nerve-racking set with a tight yet favourable margin.
On the other hand, Vicki Copeland’s magic could not prevail in this crucial game and she failed to transform her 1-0 lead into straight-set victory.
She made fatal mistakes in final moments and let her competitor to steal the limelight with 21-19 total.
The decider was expected to be a highly competitive contest but Vicki proved all the predictions wrong by stamping her challenger with a huge ten-point difference.
She started dominating from the very first stroke and maintained the upper hand throughout the third set. She did not lose grip at any stage and placed an overwhelming figure of 21-12.
