Question:

Vicodin: Pain killers without nausea as a side effect?

I stretched some tendons in my foot and was having severe pain. The doctor prescribed me VICODIN and I was a bit worried because I tried one once a few years ago and threw it up. So after eating, I took one and fell asleep only to wake up nauseated. After it passed, I ate again, and took another one. I got really nauseated again. Is there something with the same effectiveness without nausea?? Thanks! P.S. It did help the pain tremendously but I hate feeling sick...

  1. Try paracetomol or peniciline; these are generally two pain killers which have few side effects.

EDIT: Also, go to your doctor and see if they can do anything about the nauseaic side effects, maybe he could prescribe you another drug that may be helpful.

  2. did u tell your doctor about ur past encounter with this drug? It's a good idea to be opinionated, pushy and a bit bitchy when dealing with a doctor. I was told that pushy and opinionated patients get better service - u pay a lot anyway. Mayb the doctor has his/her reason but if the N & V continuous, go back to ur doctor or run to the hospital

    try NSAIDs

  3. No.  There are no effective opiate drugs (or drugs as effective that aren't opiates) that don't cause gastrointestinal side-effects.  All of these drugs act on the same type of receptors, namely the mu, delta, and to a small extent kappa opioid receptors.  The only way to avoid these side effects is to take a different class of drug that acts on a different receptor.

  4. There are other prescription painkillers which may not cause the side effects that you have mentioned-ask your doctor. The only other thing I can suggest is topical application of treatment. Try Ibuprofen gel-it doesn't work as well but may help. Again check with your doctor first.

By the way, penicillin is not a painkiller, its an antibiotic. And to the poster that said tell your doctor what to do-don't. But you are allowed to tell them about your symptoms and any good doctor (most of them, in my experience) will respond to that and suggest something else.
