Victim of fraud?

A 'friend' asked me to cash 3 checks for him because he said he lost his id and can't get money out of his account, so as a friend, I did just that and gave him the money. 3 days later, the checks came back as account closed, and the b*****d decided not to pick up my calls or open the door when I come to his house....2 months later, the guy did the same thing to our friend C... Now my bank account is closed, and was sent to a bill collector. If I file a police report, will I still be responsible for the money that is in collection?

  1. filing a police report will help your case

  2. Unfortunately, in this case, filing a police report will not help you avoid the money you owe.  You got defrauded, not the bank.  Howeve,r filing a police report may gain you some sympathy and time to work out an arrangement on the money owed.  You should have been negotiating with the bank before they sent it off to collections.  They will negotiate as well but more hard line.  File the police report and since you know where this guy lives now, make sure to push the police to act before he slithers away and disappears.
