Open German Tennis Championships 2011. Crivoi now moves on to the second round of the main draws.
The bet-at-home Open German Tennis Championships 2011 at the famed Rothenbaum Tennis Centre in Hamburg is rapidly emerging as a reputed highlight of the summer clay circuit. As one of the eleven ATP World Tour 500 stops, Hamburg
witnesses 48 top singles players and 16 doubles teams compete for glory on its fabled clay courts – the largest in Germany.
Victor Crivoi had advanced to this round of the tournament by winning against Lukas Rosol, the top seed in the qualifying round. Rosol however entered the main draws as a lucky loser. Guillermo Olaso ranked at 167, ousted Argentinean
Pablo Galdon to secure his position in the main draws.
This match, which lasted for a total of seventy six minutes, was the competitors’ first outing against each other.
Crivoi played exceedingly well in the match and in the first set alone he managed to bag a massive total of 12 aces. He served at around 73%, a huge number compared to Olaso’s 59% and was able to win 31 points off his 37 serves.
The error prone Olaso on the contrary committed 5 criminal double faults. With the scores quickly levelling at the 4-4 mark, Crivoi pulled of a successfully converted breakpoint in the 9th game and limited Olaso to just 15 points in that game. Crivoi
then surged on to win the set 6-4 with Olaso left trailing behind.
Olaso reopened the match by serving first in the second set. Crivoi continued with his exceptional form, especially in the service department and he again pulled off another 6 aces leaving his opponent severely crippled. Olaso
wasn’t able to even break Crivoi’s service games once in the entire set but Crivoi executed two back breaking breaks of serves in the set to bulldoze Olaso. The set closed at 6-3 and Crivoi took home the match.
Overall, Crivoi scored a massive 68 (37 service and 31 return) against Olaso’s 53 points of which 39 points came from serves and 14 were return points.
Crivoi now faces Italian 15th seed Fabio Fognini in his next match. Fognini had earlier received a bye to the second round of the tournament.
