Victor Martinez looking to get back into Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Victor Martinez underwent micro fracture surgery on Friday, the Tigers official announced at a Press Conference. He further had repairs to both the lateral and medical meniscus in his left knee.
Martinez was absolutely brilliant for Detroit Tigers last season as he posted his career best average of .330. Hitting 12 home-runs and 103 RBI’s, he helped the Tigers win the American League Central division title. However, just before the start of 2012 spring training session, he picked up a serious injury. The Tigers’ have already signed Prince Fielder as Martinez’s replacement.
Martinez, who batted behind Miguel Cabrera in 2011, is looking to work his way back into the team. Tigers’ designated hitter is likely to have his torn left ACL repaired after a couple of months. According to sources, the striker will have to undergo multiple surgeries to recover from the injury.
“I never put any pressure on myself. They say it’s easy to get here, but hard to stay—that’s so true. A big key for me is going to the plate and not trying to do too much. Any spot in the lineup is okay with me. As long as I’m in the lineup, I’m gong to feel good,” said Martinez in an interview.
The 33 year old suffered from an ACL tear while participating in a routine training session. He will be definitely disappointed with his situation as he might miss the entire next season to achieve the required health and fitness.
"After you feel sorry for yourself for a day or so, you move on," Dave Dombrowski said. "We have a good club. We've got a lot of players who will step up. We get a timeline coming out of that," he said.
Martinez is very famous among the Tigers’ fans. Not only he has the ability to hit hard, but also has an impressive career fielding percentage. The guy will be looking to train hard with the coaching staff to get back into the Tigers’ team as early as possible. The Tigers, on the other hand, will be hoping that Martinez is ready for the 2013 season.
