Victor Martinez shines as Detroit Tigers defeat Minnesota Twins 8-1 - MLB Update

Detroit Tigers’ designated hitter, Victor Martinez had a tremendous day with the bat as he hit four RBIs including one walk and went 2-for-3 with an average of .323 in the Tigers’ 8-1 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minnesota on August
26.
At the top of first inning, Tigers’ centre-fielder Austin Jackson struck-out, Magglio Ordonez grounded out and Delmon Young flied out without contributing even a single run. Similarly, Justin Morneau walked and Ben Revere stole second base but the rest of
their team-mates got out as Trevor Plouffe grounded out and Michael Cuddyer fouled out, at the bottom of first inning.
Twins took their initial run in the second inning when Drew Butera drove a single-run shot to right-field and Danny Valencia posted one run. Rene Tosoni moved towards third base to end the second inning. Tigers went ahead with 2-1 lead in the third inning
by adding two runs. Young reached towards second base on an infield single and Brandon Inge scored a single run.
The second or leading run for Tigers was taken by Austin Jackson when Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to right-field and Young occupied third base to end the third inning. Tigers remained on top in the next three innings also as batters struggled until the
sixth inning. Tigers’ starter, Rick Porcello pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 5.01 and permitted one run, seven hits, three walks and one earned run. He struck-out four batters on his 95 pitches.
In the seventh inning, Tigers smashed three runs to advance their lead 5-1. Ryan Raburn scored a single run when Young reached towards third base on an infield single and Jackson moved to third base. The second and third runs were taken by Jackson and Ramon
Santiago when Martinez hit a ground rule double to deep centre-field. Tigers raised their lead 8-1 during eighth inning.
Martinez said, “He's been great. He showed what he is capable to do when he's healthy.”
Jhonny Peralta scored one run when Santiago hit a sacrifice fly to left-field. Young singled to centre-field and Raburn scored a single run. The third or last run for Tigers was taken by Jackson when Martinez walked and Miguel Cabrera moved to second base.
After having a comfortable win, Tigers were on top with 1-0 lead in the three-game series at Minnesota.
