Victor Odera advances into Men’s Singles main round of Uganda International Badminton Championships
Kenya’s Victor Odera has passed the qualifying round test in a striking way as he has thrashed Uganda’s Farook Waya to secure his place in the Men’s Singles main round of Uganda International Badminton Championships 2012, in Uganda, on Thursday, February
2.
Odera delivered a phenomenal performance against the local shuttler, who was also having the support of home crowd. The Kenyan showed no respect for Waya and finished the match in a stunning way by taking just 23 minutes in the court.
The opening set was shocking for the local shuttler as Odera played tremendous badminton. He executed perfect strokes in all areas of the court and disturbed the flow of his opponent.
Odera played with variations in his strokes and kept his challenger guessing where the bird was going to land. The deception in his strokes destroyed the flow of his local rival who remained far behind on score board until the one-minute break in the first
game.
After the break, Odera continued his impressive play as he did not let his opponent to find his flow. His shot selection and accurate placement created the major difference between both shuttlers.
The Kenyan remained in superb control and took no time in ending the first set with a remarkable 21-9 score on the board.
In the second set of this qualifying round encounter, Waya played better game as he did not slow his speed and remained close to his in-form rival. He remained in good control of the pace of rallies this time and did not let his opponent to build a comfortable
lead.
After the break, Odera played to his full potential and managed to take a reasonable lead. He played fast game to put pressure on his local challenger and remained successful in getting a strong position in the game.
Odera’s powerful smashes on side lines of the court and his perfect drives spared no chance for Waya to put up strong resistance. He finished the second game with a comfortable margin of 21-15.
The Kenyan ended the straight-set match in just 23 minutes with a remarkable 21-9 and 21-15 margin on the score board.
