Victor Ortiz:  I will not underestimate Andre Berto and will nail him authoritatively – Boxing News
Victor Ortiz, the former WBC welterweight champion, put forth the media his desire to end his feud with Andre Berto, the former IBF welterweight champion, once and for all and said that he will not underestimate Andre even if he is injured adding that there
is no other choice for him but to grab an authoritative win.
Victor and Andre will headline the event promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and will collide in the ring stretched at Staples Center situated in Los Angeles, California, United States.
The duo will take on each other to determine as to who will become the owner of the vacant WBC Silver welterweight gold. The bout will be televised on Showtime’s weekly boxing show on June 23, 2012.
Ortiz and Berto recently conducted the pre-bout press conference at Los Angeles and shared their thoughts about each other.
Victor, 25, has been in a total 34 bouts and emerged victorious in 29. He has nailed 22 of his opponents by knockout and recently fought Floyd Mayweather for the WBC welterweight title.
As it was expected, Ortiz lost the bout via fourth round knockout and since then has remained outside the ring. The Victor-Andre bout was originally scheduled to take place somewhere in the month of February but due to an inadvertent arm injury sustained
by Andre, the battle was postponed to June 23, 2012.
Andre, 28, has been in a total 29 bouts and boasts 28 wins with 22 of them via knockout. This will be the second time that both men will take on each other. During their first encounter, it was Victor who emerged as the better man and collected not only
a unanimous decision win but also dethroned Berto from the WBC welterweight reign in his sixth title defence bout.
During the media gathering Victor vowed that he will seal this fact that he is better than Andre and said, “I will not underestimate Andre Berto because of his injury. I hope and expect a new and improved Andre Berto. I am training for the greatest Andre
Berto ever. I am going to be world champ again, there is no doubt about that. There is only one option for me…victory!”
Andre, on the other hand, while informing about his injury, remarked, “The arm is feeling great and I’m ready to get in there and handle some unfinished business on June 23. This is guaranteed to be an explosive fight that you don’t want to miss. Los Angeles
has become a second home to me, so I’m excited to perform for all the fans at STAPLES Center this summer.”
Victor will strive hard to make a comeback after his Floyd-defeat and Andre will effort to avenge his career’s only loss.
