Victor Ortiz says Floyd Mayweather disrespected him and took his title unfairly – Boxing news
The former WBC World Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz is constantly pushing the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather for a rematch as he wants his title back.
The 24-year-old from Garden City, Victor Ortiz, recently lost his title to Mayweather via controversial fourth round knockout and now he is desperate to get it back.
Ortiz head-butted Mayweather in the fourth round but when the fight was reset, he went on to hug Mayweather as an apology. Mayweather allowed him to hug however, the Pretty Boy unleashed a left hook followed by another one which knocked out Ortiz.
Therefore the Vicious, Ortiz, believes Mayweather has not beaten him the fair way. Ortiz stated he was sorry for intentionally head-butting Mayweather but when he went on to apologise, Mayweather disrespected him.
“That was an unfair way to take the title from a champion,” Ortiz said in Las Vegas on Monday. “I was very, very disrespected by Floyd. I think a rematch would be perfect. To me that was not sportsmanship at all.”
Ortiz’s manager, Rolando Arellano, in the meanwhile thinks Mayweather has robbed his fighter. Moreover, the manager also said Floyd Mayweather’s legacy will be tainted if does not offer Ortiz a rematch.
“Victor apologised and Floyd punk-shotted him,” said Arellano. “He's not worthy of that title. The only way he's going to be worthy is if he gives us a rematch and beats us fair and square. If he doesn't give us a rematch his legacy will be tainted and tarred
for the rest of his life.”
The 34-year-old Mayweather, who holds a perfect record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, recently wrote on his Twitter page that he will offer Ortiz a rematch, provided Ortiz beats Andre Berto
first.
Let’s see if Ortiz makes up his mind for Andre Berto, whom he beat in April 2010 via 12-round unanimous decision.
