Victor Ortiz shares his thoughts ahead of his bout with Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Council’s World Welterweight Champion, Victor Ortiz, has shared his thoughts in his official blog on Home Box Office Sports website ahead of his bout with the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Emeritus
World Super Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather.
The Vicious, Ortiz, who will take on the Pretty Boy, Mayweather on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, told the media a boxer goes through a lot for a championship belt and yet everything could end up within seconds.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “You know, you go through so much in boxing from youth leagues to the intense training and it all is for this one goal of getting a belt. You know as a boxer you train for months for one fight that can be as short
as one round if you don’t play it right.”
The 24-year-old Ortiz, who is currently rated as one of the top two Welterweight boxers in the world by most sporting news and websites, in the meanwhile also commented on his defeat against the El Chino, Marcos Maidana, who currently holds the World Boxing
Association’s interim Super Lightweight championship belt back in June 2009.
It was a scintillating battle between both pugilists but Maidana emerged as a winner because the fight was stopped in the 6th round due to a severe swelling on Ortiz’s eye. Ortiz was afterwards criticised a lot by the
people, as they believes he never wanted to fight any further.
Ortiz remarked, “I fought with a broken wrist against a good fighter and when I challenged him to a rematch and he refused, I was still the one with no courage? I was the one with no [guts]?”
However coming back to the business Ortiz stated he has earned his belt and he is not going to give it to anyone now.
“Well now I’m the one with the belt and I’m not giving it up to anybody,” he said.
