The Mexican-American professional boxer, Victor ‘Vicious’ Ortiz, who is currently the WBC Welterweight Champion is going to take on the orthodox stance Floyd Mayweather Jr. as his next possible bout on September 17, 2011.
Ortiz will be defending his WBC Welterweight title against the five-division world champion, Mayweather in their 12-round competitive bout.
When Ortiz displayed his title belt to Royal’s outfielder Jeff Francoeur, he asked him about his next bout and Ortiz replied, “I’m hearing Floyd Mayweather.”
It was expected that Floyd’s next possible opponent will be the best pound for pound champion, Manny Pacquiao but the negotiations went off as a result of financial disagreement between the fighters.
Mayweather tweeted Tuesday morning, “My fans have been waiting long enough, Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz on Sept-17 for the WBC World Championship.”
The 24 year old, Ortiz has been outstanding since his first-ever professional bout. Ortiz made his debut against Raul Montes at the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in 2004.
The southpaw stance boxing star, Ortiz fought 33 of his total fights of which he won 29 competitive bouts including 22 wins by knockouts against the world’s best opposition with 2 losses and 2 draws in his professional boxing career.
Ortiz faced the first ever loss of his career when he lost the bout against Corey Alarcon fighting at the Performing Arts Center in California in 2005. The second ever loss came Ortiz’s way in 2009 when he lost a technical knockout decision against Marcos
Maidana at the Staples Centre in California. Maidana claimed WBA Super Lightweight Title in the process.
Ortiz fought his last fight against the Haitian-American professional boxer Andre Berto. Ortiz won unanimous points’ decision and WBC Welterweight title belt when they came face to face in their 12- competitive bout. Now Ortiz is going to defend this title
against Floyd.
Ortiz spoke to the press that he has done lot of hard work to silence his critics. The fight will be interesting to watch and he has now promised his boxing fans that he will stay as a boxing champion for many years.
On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather, the number two pound for pound boxer in the world, has an impressive winning record. He has never been defeated by anyone in his career.
