Victor Ramirez ousts Jonathan Lai in quarter-final of Pan Am Junior Championships – Badminton news
Mexico’s in-form shuttler, Victor Ramirez, reached into Boy’s Singles U17 semi-final after defeating Canada’s Jonathan Lai in quarter-final clash at the XXII Pan Am Junior Championships Individual Event 2013 in Mexico, on Friday, July 26.
The un-seeded Victor, who remained incredibly positive and aggressive throughout the tournament, continued delivering strong performance and overpowered his Canadian challenger in the quarter-final clash in just 33 minutes.
Ramirez made his home fans happy b playing remarkable badminton. He did not let Jonathan to dictate the pace and eventually emerged as the winner in straight sets with a 21-15 and 21-13 score on the board.
On the other hand, Jonathan tried to play aggressively but he could not maintain a good rhythm. He also committed many unforced errors that caused him suffer with a straight-set defeat without creating a strong impact.
On paper it was a crunchy fight as both un-seeded shuttlers displayed their impressive skills in previous matches. However, Ramirez put up a strong show and took a reasonable lead at the early stage of the first set.
The Mexican was in good form as he took the bird from the tape of net and kept his rival on back foot by employing variations in his shots. He was the leader of score board until the mid-game interval in the first game.
After the break, Jonathan tried to cope up with the fast pace of rallies but he failed to get behind the bird easily. He could not make a good use of his smashes that went straight to his rival or out of the court.
Meanwhile, Ramirez continued his positive and focused run in the ending half and won the game with a convincing 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Ramirez was on a different level as he played top quality badminton without showing any respect to his challenger. Until the one-minute break, he set up a comfortable gap.
After the mid-game interval, Ramirez stayed calm and composed in the arena and he did not execute risky shots at any stage. He sailed smoothly and claimed the second set with a tremendous margin of 21-13.
