Victor Riu leads European Challenge Tour’s Bad Griesbach Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort – Golf News
Victor Riu carded a three-under par 69 in the second round of the European Challenge Tour’s Bad Griesbach Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort, to retain the top spot on the leaderboard, on Friday, July 5, 2013.
The tournament is being staged at the Hartl Resort, featuring some of the best players on the Challenge Tour.
Riu has been playing sensationally well right from the beginning of the tournament. The opening round witnessed him draining eight birdie putts, along with an amazing eagle, to post a nine-under par 63.
On day two, he started his campaign on the back nine of the course, birdying three of the first four holes that he played. Thereafter, he slowed down and parred each of the next seven holes, before conceding a bogey on the third
hole, his 12th.
He then drained a birdie putt on the sixth hole, followed by three par putts to finish the second round on a decent note.
At the end of the day, he found himself accumulating a 12-under par halfway score, which allowed him to enter the weekend with a two-shot lead over Dutchman Daan Huizing and Norway’s Eirik Tage Johansen.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in being at the top of the leaderboard for the first time in his career on the European Challenge Tour.
“My game was solid like yesterday, although I didn’t hole the putts like I did in the first round,” admitted Riu. “I’m feeling good with my game though, hitting the ball solid, and I will just try to keep this going on the weekend.
“This is the first time I am leading a tournament on the Challenge Tour, and I’m excited to be in this position, and it will be great to play well this weekend. I will certainly try my best.”
He now plans to remain consistent in the remaining two rounds, in a bid to secure the first victory of his career on the tour.
Johansen, in the meantime, was also pleased with his performance and was confident to mount a title charge on the weekend, with some more good shots on the course.
